“Duck” was a fixture at the O.K. Corral, known for his quick wit, steady pouring hand, and ability to keep a room full of gunslingers, cowboys, and gamblers in line. By the time the infamous Gunfight at the O.K. Corral took place in 1881, Duck had already established himself as the go-to man behind the bar across the Wild West.
Duck was a man of few words, and you would often see him behind the bar with his test tubes and pewter measuring cup, crafting the perfect drinks for his guests. Back then stakes were high, and Duck knew why a perfect pour is important. Too much is a guaranteed bar brawl and too little is a duel at high noon.
While he never made history like the Earps or the Clantons, Duck became a legend in the West for knowing how to make the perfect pour. In the movie Tombstone, Doc Holliday pays homage to “Duck” by twirling a pewter measuring cup against outlaw Wild Bill.
